International day of Light
Did you know? 16 May is the International Day of Light as proclaimed by Unesco.
Why 16 May?
The International Day of Light is held on 16 May every year, the anniversary of the first successful operation of a laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. The laser is a perfect example of how a scientific discovery can yield revolutionary benefits to society in communications, healthcare and many other fields.
The International Day of Light is not just about lasers and science. It also includes aspects of art, culture, entertainment – in fact, everywhere that you find light!
During the event, B-PHOT, Brussels Photonics will organise a series of activities, including the final of the B-Photonics Cup. Stay tuned to discover more about these activities.
